Arizona Disability Research & Demographic Data
Disabilities can be either visible or hidden. Examples of visible disabilities are limb amputation, cerebral palsy, and Down Syndrome. Invisible disabilities include conditions such as chronic pain, communication disorders, autism, and mental health disorders, which are may not be apparent to others.
Statistics from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) reveal that 1 in 4 adults have some type of disability. Therefore, in a ward with 182 households, where a total of 364 adults reside, it can be estimated that approximately 91 adults in the ward could be living with a disability.
Additionally, during 2019–2021, the prevalence of any diagnosed developmental disability in children aged 3–17 years increased from 7.40% in 2019 to 8.56% in 2021.
